In 2008, the ad agency I was working at went belly up. I lost my job, and felt like this was as good a time as any to commit to full-time art making. For the next several years I evolved this body of work as a satirical exploration of the effects of the “down” economy on our individual and national identity. I was also interested in questioning the role the media plays in amplifying our collective paranoia. It felt honest to let the anxiety of that time percolate into my work, both as a cathartic exercise, and as a point of departure to examine other aspects of a culture in turmoil.

I’ve borrowed imagery from sources as varied as news blogs, vintage advertisements and the graphic design of printed money. Through this collision of images I’m seeking to create new and open-ended narratives that are both cautionary and humorous.
