The Maneki Neko series split off from the The New Normal project, which explores the anxiety and superstitions that accompany various ideas about wealth. In these pieces I’ve conflated the American dollar bill with the Japanese “Lucky Cat” (Maneki Neko). The juxtaposition of eastern and western symbols makes a humorous comment on the surreal effects of globalization. The titles are Latin words having to do with desire and fortune.
